Hi Gill, thanks for chatting with us! We’re excited to start working with The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh and can’t wait to showcase the stunning venue to our clients! We wanted to ask you some questions so we could all get to know you and hear more about this magnificent venue!
What’s your role at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh?
I’m the Business Development and Events Coordinator
What’s your favorite room in the College and why?
I really love the views across the rooftops of Edinburgh’s New Town out to the Firth of Forth from our Cullen Suite. The soft colours of the room are really calming and the room is so bright that it still shines on a gloomy day. The suite is versatile too; we’ve hosted everything from afternoon teas and a magazine photo shoot to private dining events and boardroom meetings.
What’s your favourite event that you’ve delivered in the last year?
Two spring to mind. The first was a Harry Potter themed private dinner held in our New Library. We worked closely with the destination management company and suppliers, creating a dinner fit for Harry and his wizarding friends! We had books flying out of the fireplace, floating candles and of course, potions.
My other favourite event (sorry I can’t only choose one!) was a wedding a couple of weeks ago. Two of my friends were married in our Great Hall. It was so great to attend a wedding at the College as a guest. From the décor, to the catering and of course the dancing, everything ran so smoothly. The guests all commented on what a stunning venue it was too. It made me feel proud to work at the College.
What do you see the next big trend in events being?
I think as a venue, we need to be aware of our impact on the environment and try to reduce our food waste, save energy and recycle where possible. I think companies are becoming better at these activities, and I hope it’s a trend that continues to gain momentum. Working with organisations like Hickory who understand and support this is really important to us.
Another trend is how caterers are more aware of allergens and intolerances. Having a food intolerance meant in the past I really struggled to find fresh, delicious and tasty food. However, I’m delighted to see that caterers such as Hickory are able to create such wonderful (and really yummy) alternatives.
What’s your favourite food?
Seafood! In particular, I love sushi and scallops. If I see scallops on a menu I have to order them and being in Edinburgh we’re very lucky to have such fantastic local suppliers on our doorstep!
