Project Description
DESCRIPTION
A thirteenth-century castle nestled in a wooded estate, Luffness is delightful location in which to host weddings, dinners, corporate meetings and other occasions or to simply book a retreat and appreciate the East Lothian surroundings.
Luffness Castle was originally built to protect the landings in nearby Aberlady Bay, and has had several additions made to its structure over the centuries. Its distinctive features include a tower house and turret and a beautiful walled fruit garden, built by Napoleonic Prisoners of War in the early nineteenth century. This T-plan building is surrounded by a moat, shows traces of an old Viking camp and was visited by Mary Queen of Scots, making it a must-see for lovers of Scottish history.
Wedding ceremonies can be held in the on-site chapel adjacent to the castle. For receptions, dinners and other special occasions, there is ample room for a marquee on the picturesque gardens, allowing couples and their guests to celebrate in attractive surroundings. We can also host ceremonies of up to 120 in the ballroom if using the marquee for the wedding breakfast. The ballroom can accommodate up to 80 for a seated banquet, and 120 for a stand-up buffet. There is also some overnight accommodation available on the grounds, including in the castle itself – subject to prior arrangement. And with 5 conference rooms and only 30 minutes from Edinburgh, the castle is an excellent location for all kinds of events and celebrations.
