Introducing Oxenfoord Castle

We are delighted to announce that Hickory is now managing and catering all events at one of Scotland’s most striking ancestral homes: the simply stunning Oxenfoord Castle.

Located above the River Tyne in a dreamy parkland setting, the castle is reached via a long tree lined drive and stunning stone bridge – quite an entrance for wedding or corporate guests.  There’s a pretty Victorian church in the grounds, a rose garden for outdoor ceremonies and roaring fires and/or huge windows opening onto the lawns (and you may need both, this being Scotland after all) along with sumptuous textiles, antiques and paintings.

Located just 12 miles from Edinburgh, Oxenfoord is an impressive alternative to a city centre venue for a business dinner, product launch or some high end client entertaining. To find out more about holding an event in this most beautiful of historic houses, call us on 0131 273 4363 or email oxenfoord@hickoryfood.co.uk

It’s been another bumper awards year for Hickory:

Scotsman Food & Drink Awards 2018
Hickory named best Eco Friendly Business in Scotland

We’re absolutely thrilled to have won the Scotsman Food and Drink award for Best Eco Friendly business for 2018. We are dedicated to making everything we do as a business more environmentally friendly and are continually looking to improve our practices – something the judges were really impressed with!

VIBES Awards 2019
Hickory nominated for the Management SME award

We’re eagerly awaiting the ceremony for the upcoming VIBES event at the Radisson Blu hotel in Glasgow for which we’ve been shortlisted for the Management SME award.  The Scottish Environmental Business Awards, to give it its full title, “rewards and recognizes businesses that demonstrate that environmental excellence is linked to financial and social success.”  This is a subject close to our hearts, as we continue to seek ways to operate as sustainably as possible, recognised by our Gold level accolade from Green Tourism.

VOWS Awards
Dunglass nominated for Best Wedding Venue in Edinburgh, Lothians & Borders

Finally, the annual VOWS awards are nearly upon us.  This ultra-glamorous event features wedding industry players from all over Scotland and as former winners we are keeping our fingers crossed that one of the venues which we exclusively manage – Dunglass Estate – will be the lucky winner in the Best Wedding Venue in Edinburgh, Lothian and Borders category.

The not-so-humble potato

There have been some extraordinary culinary high points in the past few months from Development Chef Robbie Gleave, but one of our favourites has to be his wildly popular potato beignet invention, debuted at a recent corporate meeting.

Think the lightest of doughnuts but with a seductively savoury umami twist: Vitelotte potato is flashed cooked in a delicate batter (itself quite a technical feat) then served with wine-pickled local beetroot, a silky whipped goat’s cheese, leaves from our kitchen garden and a drizzle of our home-produced herb oil.  Truly scrumptious in every way and one that we’ll be seeing on the pass for a while to come, with both potatoes and beetroot stalwart ingredients from autumn into winter.

Books, golf, athletics and . . . cows

The summer of ’18 has been perhaps our best ever, with some cracking contracts all over the country for Hickory Bars and our catering services. Of special mention are the book festivals in Edinburgh and the Borders; the Braemar Gathering, the Royal Highland Show and two big sporting events: the European Golf Team Championships at Gleneagles and the European 2018 Championships in Glasgow.  We’re so proud of our dedicated and supremely professional teams, who always hit the ground running and ensure everything goes according to plan.

Forgive us for a little show off moment, but we had to share the kind words three of our clients were good enough to send us, when it was all over . . .

“During the event, Hickory were completely self sufficient and had clearly spent a great deal of time creating a detailed and comprehensive plan. The quality of the food and service were very high and received daily praise.

I would highly recommend Hickory – nothing appeared a challenge to them and they had an energy to surpass expectations that was great to see.”

Kit Gartrell, Assistant Championship Director, European Tour

“The team were a pleasure to work with throughout, were very professional, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Ultimately this made our job as the clients an easy one. I would highly recommend anyone to work with Hickory and wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again in the future for any catering or bar projects.”

Lorraine Steel, CCW Cluster Manager, Glasgow 2018 European Championships

“Hickory Bars have been an integral operator at The Royal Highland Show for over three years. The Botanical Garden Bar has grown in popularity with Royal Highland Show visitors since its inception in 2016. The bar’s design successfully combines both modern and rustic décor that complements the relaxed and welcoming ambience that Hickory has created in a busy area of the Showground.

I hope to continue to build on this great relationship, for the foreseeable future.”

Stuart Heywood, Facilities & Services Manager, Royal Highland Show
