Our Beach Clean Up, which took place on Sunday 24th Jan in association with the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) at Prestonpans was a real eye opener: 5 bin bags of rubbish collected. Team Hickory and some fantastic volunteers spent the afternoon retrieving 5 full bin bags plus other bulky stuff from the beach and even though there was no treasure found, we did pick up a whole range of things, some of them quite intriguing:
Vintage bricks from the old Preston Grange brickworks
Lots of Lego and children’s toys
Babies’ dummies
Endless bottle tops
Yards of rope
Way too much polystyrene
A massive thank you to everyone who took part, especially those who’d travelled quite a way - we hope the hot cuppa and Hickory treats at the end made it worthwhile, and not forgetting the amusing antics of the gorgeous Mac, our mascot puppy who entertained us all afternoon!
